Protruding ears can cause aesthetic and psychosocial stress for the patient. In general, at the age of 5 ears usually don’t show any further growth, and surgery is possible.
The procedure can be performed as an outpatient under local anesthesia or under short anesthesia. For this surgery, the cartilage of the ear structures can be reduced, or weakened. That way the shape of the ear can be reattached at an angle of apx. 30° away from the skull.
