Science & Research - Research priorities

In order to provide you with even better service in the future, we are continuously working on improving the skills and expertise of our doctors and the clinic in the discipline of maxilla-facial surgery.

Implants

Dental implants are artificial tooth roots. A dental implant functions the same way as the patients’ own root, since it directly fuses with the bone. Implants anchor dentures, e.g. bridges, crowns or removable dentures securely to the bone.

Social projects

The clinic supports social and humanitarian projects in addition to their medical and scientific activity. For more details, see science and research.

Consultation & Treatment

The first step in implant treatment is the diagnosis and detailed consultation with your dentist to determine if an implant is feasible.

Beratung & Behandlungsplanung

During the initial the bone condition and treatment-related findings will be detected using an x-ray. Personal requests as well as known risks will be taken into account. Furthermore, your dentist should also talk with you about treatment alternatives with conventional dentures.

Special x-ray diagnostics allows precise height measurement of the jaw bone. In advanced bone loss, or in complicated cases it is useful to create a computerized tomography (CT) or digital volume tomography (DVT), to obtain a three dimensional representation of bone conditions and surrounding structures (expansion of the maxillary sinus nerve course).

The impression (plaster jaw models) provides information on jaw interactions and bone width. The implantation can be accurately measured and planned.

The most accurate estimation of expected costs is possible only on the basis of these preliminary studies. Changes in costs cannot be ruled out as changes can occur during the implantation process.

Similarly, only rough estimates can be provided for materials and dental costs. However, experienced implantologists can usually estimate progress and costs very well.

The written consent should only be made if, after an individual consultation, and representation of risks and possible complications, there are no more open questions.

3D-Planning

Digitaler Volumentomogramm (DVT)

In particularly difficult cases, a 3-D design can be carried out, in order to determine the implant ability of the jaw before the operation. This is done by our clinic using a digital Volumento-Nomograph (DVT).

The radiation exposure of this device is five times lower than that of classic computer tomography (CT). As this is a dynamic imaging method, the significance is far greater than that of the classic CT. Using this technique, the question of the implant feasibility, a template guided implantation can be performed on the patient, which amounts to a significantly lower surgical trauma. The cost of such an examination are usually not covered by health insurance.
